I am busy making new paintings as well as massaging code for my other job at Nokia.

Smithsonian Update

News is, my wife and I are both finalists in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery's competition this year. How exciting!.

Additionally, should you be in Seattle in February, I will have a small work at auction for Artist Trust (http://artisttrust.org).

Been working on the Smithsonian site so much lately that I haven't had tons of time to get anything else down.

O.K., not completely true. Lots of other super-secret stuff I've been doing as well.

Although I've been working hard, it doesn't stop me from checking out business world so that I can optimize my e-strategy. Check out Huh? Corp. and be inspired...

Quietly Seething?

It has been about 21-22 years that I've been pissed at the way politics run in America, ever since I was doing my little part to fight the Right in 1983-4, wearing my anti-Ronnie pins in my ultra-conservative junior high, in my ultra-conservative home town. I got pushed around a little then, which only made me more certain that I was on the right track. In years since - about every four years - I feel simultaneously like leading the revolution and also like crawling into a cave, far away from televised politics.

I still have faith in people, but -20% faith in bipartisan politics.

Instead of offering a personal rant today, I offer you one by a friend. Call me quietly-pissed, but Dan is steaming with rage and fire. If the current Iraq/Corporate BS/New Orleans/Patriot Act disaster bugs you too, I suggest that you read this, sign it if you wish, and thank Dan for sticking his neck out a bit.

Also, I have been invited by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery to participate in their "Portrait of an Artist" weblog where I expose my art life for the next 4 months. Click here for more exciting info. The jury will be out for awhile on the portrait competition.

Rebecca and I have been in rather high gear applying to shows and spending money on postage and entry fees. Waiting to hear back from New American Paintings about whether we'll be in the next issue for our region, and we just applied for the Betty Bowen Award. We also have some shows coming up: Rebecca and I are going to be in an exhibition called pARTners at the Kirkland Arts Center in October. Both of us have a few works up now at Aron Packer Gallery in Chicago. Rebecca has her solo show at Pacini Lubel Gallery in October, and in November, I'll be in a 10-year retrospective exhibition of past members at SOIL Gallery. Busy! Oh, yes, and we're applying to the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery Competition. Submitting a "Monster" portrait - I wish I could be a fly on the wall when they see it.

VHDL for fun and humor

So... part out of following a uncertain new alter-career on the horizon, and part out of sheer need for challenge I have been taking up the programming sport of learning VHDL (known to those who are in the know as Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Definition Language). In short, a way to solve the complex problem of building the logic of integrated circuitry using a programming language. Reading a very dry text and drinking a lot of coffee. Thanks to the nice people at Symphony EDA I've been able to use a free programming environment and simulator for the language... More on VHDL for you masochists is right here

You know that work has become routine when you are able to clear your desk in a few small hours then just to keep your brain awake find websites like Stuff on My Cat . It’s a bad sign. How low can I go...
